This issue of the News, marks its fifteenth year of publication and reflects
our Association's commitment to keeping it a high standard Newsletter. The
15th Canadian Tunnelling Conference was held jointly with the Congress of the
International Association of the Engineering Geology in Vancouver, from September 23rd to
26th and it was well attended. The delegates from around the world were invited to present
the papers on various aspects of tunnelling. This year's issue of the Journal contains
over 35 papers.
It is hard to believe that we are only a year away from the millennium.
My term of office as the Association President officially ends on December 31, 1998, and
therefore, this is my last report to you. As outgoing President of your Association, I am
pleased to state that TAC is a vibrant healthy organization. The Association is well
respected both nationally and internationally. TAC continues to operate with a strong
membership base, which currently stands at 340. This reflects the result of many years of
very dedicated and effective management by the Officers and members of the Board.
The executive team which served the Association during this term was in
my opinion the best we could have hoped for.
This is a good opportunity to introduce Bruce Ripley. We are fortunate
to have Bruce as our newly elected President. He possesses excellent leadership qualities
and we look forward to working with Bruce. Welcome on board to Paul Rapp, V.P. West and
France Goupil, Director for Quebec.
To the membership at large, I would like to thank you all for your
support and I am grateful for having been given the opportunity to work with you. The past
four years will remain as one of my life's long lasting memories.
My sincerest thanks to you all.
