Attaching Lenses
Use a product like Kristal Klear or Elmer's White Glue. These glues will not harm
painted surfaces and dry clear. They are more than strong enough to hold the clear parts
in place.
Headlight Lenses
February 16, 2001
Some kits have the lenses moulded in opaque plastic. I remove the
lens portion and then make a new lens from clear styrene filed it into a convex shape.
The score some lines on the back. Tamiya Polishing/Rubbing compound takes out all the file
scratches perfectly. I used this technique on the Honda
Z50J-III Gorilla.
Painting Lenses
All of Tamiya's kits come with clear lenses that must be painted with Clear Red
and Clear Orange. I find the lenses looks much more realistic if painted from the inside.
Painting Lenses Part 2
Some kits have the lenses moulded in opaque plastic. For turn signal
and tail light lenses, I paint the lens with NBA and then with either clear
orange or clear red. This results in very convincing looking lenses. I used this
technique on the Honda Z50J-III Gorilla
and the J.G.S.D.F. Reconnaissance
Set.
