This kit is the 'Export Version' which was meant for the non-Japanese market. So I assume its intended for the North American markets.
In addition to this 'Export Version', there is also a '90 'Domestic Version' which is kit #24942. The only difference between the two kits is that the domestic kit (24942) has chromed exhaust pipes and the tank and fenders are moulded in silver rather than black.
And there are also two '86 Export kits, #25659 (Purple) and #26137 (Red). These kits have the same sprues as the '90 kits with the addition of a sprue which holds the new front wheel, front brake discs and calipers and body parts moulded in the respective colours.
Unfortunately this kit suffers from some sink marks.
Visible sink marks:
- Top of foot pegs B24
- Top of brake fluid reservoirs B26 & B27
- Mirror faces E1 & E2
Less visible sink marks:
- Rear of frame A1 & A2
- Sides of valve covers F5
- Top of engine case F10
Tthe V-Max parst require more time to clean up (mould lines, etc.) than I'm used to. Also, some gates on the bright and satin chrome sprues could have been located better away from highly visible areas.
Sink marks and gate locations aside, the kit falls together like a Tamiya kit. The fit of the parts is excellent. Even the complex exhaust system went together flawlessly. If Aoshima takes the time to address the sink mark and gate location problems in their kits, they'd easily have kits on par with Tamiya.
