PROF. KWAN YEE LO - PRESIDENT - 1990 - 1993

PRESENT POSITION: Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil Engineering and Director, Geotechnical Research Centre, University of Western Ontario,London, Ont., Canada;

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Research: Research covers a wide spectrum of Geotechnical Engineering, including underground structures in rocks for energy and resource development, dams on rock foundations, soft ground tunnelling and electrical strengthening of soft clays. Dr. Lo has published over 100 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. Received Best Paper Awards three times from the Canadian Geotechnical Society.

Consulting: Served as specialist consultant on many projects both in Canada and abroad, including; tunnels (in soft and hard ground); foundations for major heavy industrial and public projects; foundation for numerous dams; engineered barriers for high level radioactive nuclear waste for deep geological disposal; stability of high slopes in residual soils in Hong Kong.

Elected Fellow of Engineering Institute of Canada 1992. In recognition of his many contributions to the engineering profession the K.Y. Lo Medal Award has been established by the Engineering Institute of Canada 1997.
