Transformantra

Transformantra
s/t
SU003B CD $17.99

The new Toronto-area techno group Transformantra make their impressive debut with this nine track cd which includes Freaky Chakra's moody tech-step remix of "G-Stylee" (previewing his Ill Machine material on the upcoming Saigon label compilation).

Check out Transformantra's debut on Tower listening posts from April 22nd to May 26th, or tune into it's world web premiere now on Andrew Duke's Cognition Audioworks show on Streetsound's website.

Throughout the album Transformantra swing between techno, funk and dub contexts while maintaining an intelligent electronica focus similar to the English school of Autechre, Beaumont Hannant and Luke Slater. The CD kicks off with the first single "Liquor Mart" which moves to a bouncy LFO-style melody, snappy funky snares and a low, low bassline. "Satan's Address" and "Fragments Of Illumination" continue the funky stuff, adding some fun distortion and electronic soundz. "Hovercraft" also swoops by the funk on its UFO-ride through dub-hop, electro and hard bass-kicking rhythms.

Transformantra's debut performance was at the Black Lodge rave May 1997, where they appeared with PWOG, The Black Dog and Stacey Pullen. The Black Dog praised their show on his website: "...The real stars of the evening were the local talent. An awesome technothreesomeinthemouldofkraftwerk totally blew the minds of everyone..."

Reviews: ""Liquor Mart" is a maelstrom that seems to encompass five or six different works, with layers appearing to rise and fall - at random, but it somehow never loses its way. The flipside features a surprisingly dark Freaky Chakra mix with a dark jungle flavor." - Chart March 98

"Easily in my top 10 for the year." - Feedback Monitor 12/2/97

""Liquor Mart" combines the funky electro sound of the mid eighties with that driving-drilling synth that bleeds your brain dry. Then the filtered congas snap ya silly." - Klublife March 98

Silver USA is proud to announce distribution deals for these outstanding releases:

Arc Vs Tiny Objects In Space
12K 1001 CD $17.99

KKNA is now distributing the remaining copies of this limited edition release (500 copies) from Taylor Deupree's 12K label. This joint release features the ultrasynthetic showdown of the subtle electronic trickery of Arc (Savvas Ysatis (aka Omicron) and Taylor Deupree, who are also SETI and Futique) and the stark, experimental techno of Deupree's Tiny Objects In Space alter ego. This release continues the minimalist direction of Arc's debut on the Radical Ambient label, and includes "Sci" from the first and only release from Savvas and Taylor's Index Records' Electronic Architecture 12".

Human Mesh Dance
Thesecretnumbertwelve
12K 1000 B CD $17.99

KKNA will be selling the remaining copies of this limited edition release of 500 numbered copies. This was the first release from Taylor Deupree's Human Mesh Dance since 1994's critically acclaimed debut on Instinct. This 1997 release goes deeper into the ambient techno of Mindflower to explore dreamy synth textures. Thesecretnumbertwelve was designed as a 'dream-enhancer', featuring slow waves of sound and quietly pulsing rhythms which create a meditative space.

Cherry Soda
Wicked House
FLSDIO02-1 12" $9.99

KKNA is proud to announce that we will be distributing the Californian techno label Fuzzy Logik. From their new house-based sub label, S.O.D.A., comes this first of a series of 12"ers on coloured vinyl corresponding to a flavor of soda pop. This 12" features remixes by international DJ Steve Loria and long time west coast producer Bleu, featuring vocals by Jewell-EE. Bleu's mix of "Wicked House" features dubbed vocals and a funk bassline. Steve Loria's "Bang The Drum Mix" of "Jewell Double EE" is more experimental, with phasing breaks and mechanical sounds from toy piano and kalimba. With conga rhythms and strings this is a very progressive California house track.

Dimension 23 Versus Bleu
FLI971001-2 CD $17.99

Fuzzy Logik's debut CD release features Californian techno groups Dimension 23 and Bleu. Their exciting split release showcases their rave-oriented techno in a continuous mix. One of the five Dimension 23 tracks, "I.M.O.K. R.U.O.K.", just got the DJ Keoki stamp of approval by making its way onto his new mixed CD from Moonshine Music called Inevitable Alien Nation. Dimension 23 are a duo with previous releases on Harthouse/Eye Q, Priority, Vox Lumania and FatalData. A new remix of their hit Harthouse single "12,000 Ravers" is featured on this disc. In 1997 they remixed the techno-dub collaboration between Lee "Scratch" Perry and Yello's Dieter Meier, and had two tracks on the interactive science fiction film Bombshell, which stars Madchen Amick (of Twin Peaks fame).

Bleu has produced a track for Traci Lord's album and had previous releases on BMG, Exist Dance, TSR, Bottom Heavy and Cosmic Flux.
This release has been advertised in magazines such as XLR8R, Fix, Massive and Retina. A promotional 12" has been serviced to DJ's in the US.

Fryer Tuck
Hip Hop For Stoned Ravers
CDS SU008D $7.99

Wait until you hear these fukdupt lo-fi tracks from Vancouver's hip hop duo Fryer Tuck! After taking the piss out of the hype around DJ Spooky on the opening "Artcore Will Die", and Courtney Love on "Last Big Thing", they retell their hilarious misadventures with gear rentals on the interactive CD-Rom portion of this disc. Hip Hop For Stoned Ravers is packaged in a motion sickness bag and is nauseatingly limited to 130 copies!! Look for it in specialty stores in Canada. Upcoming will be a video clip and new 12".

Review: "Fryer Tuck's first twisted tip-off comes to light via the disc's packaging, tightly wrapped in an air-sick bag. Inside, the music is thoughtful, dirgy electro hip-hop (with the exception of a few screamy samples) but the disc's true beauty lies in its sassy enhanced self. Be sure to check a hysterical section entitled "Credit Scandal" that takes viewers sonically and visually through the band's music equipment rent-to-own nightmare." Exclaim Dec '97

Various
Beatz Work Vol 1
Organarchy Sound Systems
ORSS 001B CD $17.99

KK Records North America has had a long relationship with Australian techno through the many artists on KK's Nova Zembla label. Australians are known for their ravin' trance-techno and quirky leftfield experiments. Beatz Work Vol 1 is a compilation of such techno from the east coast of Australia. Best known are Ju Ju Space Jazz, whose new Matsuri label album is creating quite a buzz. Ju Ju Space Jazz's Daniel Conway also does double duty as a member of Monocycle. Well connected throughout the international trance scene is Exotic Matters, who's Ray Castle has had releases under various names on Silent Records, Psy Harmonics, Matsuri, Transient and Return To The Source.

Beatz Work Vol 1 was put together by a collective of party organizers and social activists, Organarchy Sound Systems. Their political motivations are represented on this collection by Fatty Acidz's support of the Anti-Sydney 2000 Olympics movement, with their track "Nolympics", and the news samples from the scandal about an Australian-based CIA spy center in Ju Ju Space Jazz's "Whales".

Tracks:

1. Exotic Matter "Gold Ghost"
Ray Castle
, originally from New Zealand, DJ'ed and organized parties in Goa, Japan and Europe from 1987 to 1994. Since 1993 Castle has released full length cds on Silent Records as Mantaray, and on Psy Harmonics as Sonic Sufi and Masaray. On releases in the UK he has appeared as Rhythmystec (Matsuri) and Insectoid (Return To The Source and Transient).

2. Monocycle "No Respect"
Hard-edged minimal acid track from a collaboration by two of Sydney's finest underground producers: Ju Ju Space Jazz's Daniel Conway and DJ Manson. This track is a preview of a full-length Monocycle release on DJ Manson's Intent Recordings label.

3. Solar Co-Ordinates "Earth Energy"
Sydney DJ Pete Strong with a dub-bass propelled track of World-trance, featuring tabla, voice samples and Middle Eastern-styled keyboards. He has been active in the Non Bossy Posse, and nows runs a clothing label called 'be cosmic', as well as being very active in Organarchy Sound Systems.

4. Hypnoblob "Information Technology"
Throbbing techno-funk from Ian Andrews, who is in Subvertigo and Clan Analogue, as well as being a one-time member of the Non Bossy Posse.

5. D*Ranger "Astrl Anarchy"
Debut track from English composer Fred Cole and DJ Paul Chambers. Cole has been working on a Phd on Australian techno! at Southern Cross University. Paul Chambers has checked out the electronic music scene since the early 80's in the UK and India, before moving to Austrialia in 1990. Since then he has DJ'ed, produced radio and coordinated the Beyond The Brain events.

6. Fatty Acidz "Nolympics"
Angry industrial-techno protesting the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Kol Dimond also has tracks under the name of Dose, and DJs regulary under the alias of Amino Acid. He was one of the founding group in the Circus Vibe Tribe and the Non Bossy Posse.

7. Adrenalentil "Goldie Locks"
Greta from Sydney twists the meaning of a sample from the Three Bears story over a hard bass-kicking beat.

8. Azoic "Nylex"
Jay Bryant from Brisbane, also known as Mekanoid, produces an hypnotic melange of counter-rhythms and acidic lines.

9. Disconitz "Disconitz"
Techno-funk with cartoon-y sounds from a second anarcho-femme producer JE. She also works as Reflecta with Nick Taylor.

10. Ju Ju Space Jazz "Whales"
"Whales" is an atmospheric piece featuring slow beats and news samples about an Australian-based CIA spy center. Their 1998 Matsuri album is the kind of inventive techno that has been heard from Nova Zembla groups like Lumukanda and Shoalin Wooden Men. Their Australian debut was Head Over Heels In Dub.

KK Records North America new releases:

Brilliantfish
Sick
KKNA002B $17.99

This is a taste of what's to come. The debut CD from the singer/multi-instrumentalist known simply as Brilliantfish is industrial rock as therapy. "This is catharsis, whatever the fuck you want to call it. The music is raw / intense / complex / direct. It comes from pain. It comes from living. It's alive and definitely wants to stay that way. Nihilism can go fuck itself. This is about knowing what inhabits the dark stinking places by name and coming out the other side kicking / biting / screaming ... whatever. No more explanations. Just listen. Then we'll talk. - Brilliantfish"

Brilliantfish now includes guitarist Black and drummer Brad Pallister. Their intense, theatrical show has been called "explosive ... confrontational" by the Toronto Star daily newspaper.

Reviews: "You're scaring me..." - Mike Campbell (Much Music)
"If there were an Industrial Pop chart this would be in the Top 10" - Terry Brown (producer - Rush, Klaatu)
