June 13 2000 - On the main Media page I've added some downloadable files of a Mickey Spillane interview by Scott Peters. It's a great interview and one definitely worh checking out. It's an interview from around 1962 that was aired on CBC, and runs about 10 minutes. At the moment, there are two versions, a low size-low quality version and a bigger high quality version. Each has been broken up into 2 five minute files. Check it out HEREApril 27 2000 - Coming soon to a theater in New York... SPILLANE HITS THE BIG APPLE As a special event during Edgar Week, the Mystery Writers of America is pleased to offer An Evening with Mickey Spillane. Spillane Champagne ReceptionSep 20 1999 - A copy of a recent interview run by the Guardian was sent to me from a vistor to the site by the name of Vicki ( Thanks, doll ) Click HERE to check it out. Sep 7 1999 - I know I know, I haven't exactly been taking care of my site recently. I've got excuses but I'm not going to waste your time with them. What I will say is that I got word that Mickey will definitely be at this years Magna Cum Murder conference ( see news item below dated Nov 29 ). To read the press release click HERE. On that page, you will also find the registration form in PDF format. Hopefully, there's still room for one or two more. I won't be going, as I have recently bought a car and have sunk myself into a financial hole I'll be able to crawl out of sometime in the new millenia. Apr 27 1999 - I've got some good news and some bad news, depending on how you see things. The good news is that Mickey's got a new book coming out soon, the bad news being that it's not going to be a Mike Hammer book. The main character is a new character named Hooker, ( "His name is Hooker, and he's not Mike Hammer for sure," said Spillane.) and the book will be more of an adventure story that's set in the Caribbean. I'll let you all know more as soon as I get more details. Nov 29 1998 - I was recently informed that Mickey Spillane has agreed to be the Mystery Masters guest of honor at the sixth annual Magna cum Murder Crime Fiction Conference. This conference is sponsored by Ball State University in Muncie, IN. The dates are October 29 - 31, 1999. The enthusiasm generated by the last five Magna cum Murders has made this event one of the most popular and well respected forums for readers and writers of crime fiction in the United States. To learn more about it, visit their site.(Thanks for the info, Kathryn) Sep 30 1998 - Max Allan Collins' Spillane documentary is nearing completion -- the title now is MIKE HAMMER'S MICKEY SPILLANE. Among those interviewed on screen are Mickey himself (of course), his wife Jane, Stacy Keach, Jay Bernstein, Shirley Eaton, Lee Meredith, Walter Mosley and Sara Paretsky. This is a "spec" project, so it'll be a while before Spillane fans can see it for themselves ...but it will be premiering in December at a famous film noir festival in Italy. It looks like Max Allan Collins' web site is now up and running. The site was created and is maintained by his son Nate. ( Clean and attractive design, easy to navigate, good job Nate.) There you'll find all sorts of information on the man who, working with Spillane, brought you such recent books as Vengeance is Hers ( 1997 ) and Private Eyes ( 1998 ), these two being collections of short stories. That last book actually conatins a never before published 1953 Mike Hammer short story. Click HERE to check it out, or you can wait until you get to the links page. Max Allan Collins, the co-author of the only book on Mickey -- ONE LONELY KNIGHT: MICKEY SPILLANE'S MIKE HAMMER, published by Bowling Green in 1984 (and still in print) is currently putting finishing touches on SPILLANE, a documentary biography of Mickey, who as a favor to him came out of actor retirement to play roles in his two independent features, MOMMY and MOMMY'S DAY. On the 1st weekend of March 1998, a surprise birthday party was thrown for Mickey Spillane at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. In attendance was his wife Jane( who arranged it ), author and friend Max Allan Collins, his wife Barb and his son Nate ( Mickey's godson ), MIKE HAMMER TV producer Jay Bernstein, Stacey Keach as well as others. I, however, couldn't attend, as I was suffering from a minor case of scurvy. Happy 80th Mickey! ( Thanks, Max.) |
