Have been reading Spillane since the 50's and still have all the original novels which I read every few years or so. Never got into Tiger Man or Dogeron Kelly as I felt they were poor imitations of Mike Hammer. I ran a Private Detective agency in Montreal for about 20 yesrs (no .45 automatic), but am now in sales. Lately my son bought me a Mike Danger comic - Great!. I read many other mystery writers but only John D.MacDonald with his Travis McGee series holds my attention like Mike Hammer. Even when you know the story by heart you can't help getting carried along by the fast-paced writing of Mickey Spillane. Great website I'll visit often to keep up to date.

Great site! I have been reading Spillane since I was @12 (now 50) and I believe that I have every available book of his. I'm not sure about collections and hope that this site will help me complete my collection. Again, thanks for a great job!!!

I am 30, and I have been a fan since i was a sophmore in high school. Its great to see a site devoted to Hammer. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Spillane book that i havent read. Just finished watching Kiss Me Deadly for the first time. What the hell was up with that? Im not trying to diminish its value as a film noir classic....but even the sucky tv show from the 80s was more true to the novels....and that aint saying much. WAS THERE EVER A HAMMER MOVIE THAT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE SAME CHARACTER SPILLANE WROTE ABOUT?

A line from my new novel, DUCK ALLEY: "Before I started teaching school, I used to love to read certain books over and over. The habit had started in high school, when I read, then reread and reread, Mickey Splillane's THE GIRL HUNTERS. The first line in it is, 'They found me in the gutter.'"

Sorry, I forgot to add my URL. Well, not really mine but worth checking :-) Is there any chronology in Hammer novels? (Except chronology from 1947. when they were written.)

I read my first Hammer novel somewhere back in late 80’s. That novel was a surprise, because I’m no passionate mystery novel reader... Hammer was tough and seductive, bright and funny, a real action-pack prototype hero. Atmosphere in the novel was special, almost as if you could feel, hear and smell dark rainy New York night, few years after II.WW... Later I found out that Spillane has more novels with same character - so I tried to collect them all. But where to find data about Spillane and his work? Finally, at the end of 1998. I searched Internet for Spillane and there was this wonderful site! Very nice graphics, cool site structuring followed with great texts and excerpts. You did an excellent job Rocco! Keep on! Just few days ago I have decided to read all my Hammer’s again – for the second time. By the way, Mike (and Velda) did one big (illogic?) mistake in “My gun is quick” near the end; Velda and Mike entered their office to found out that receipt from antique shop (regarding photo camera) is missing, together with paper note with Lola’s phone number & address (from Velda’s notebook). Mike predicts the obvious and rushes to Lola’s apartment for rescue... Velda should call and check Lola (warn her), maybe send patrol car while Mike drives in the night. Don’t you think so? Greetings to all from 'small country for great holidays' – CROATIA.

It's somewhere between 3 o'clock and sun up and instead of getting soem shut eye I'm looking at a little box and twitching my right index finger looking for a reason I can't find a good detective to far into tommorow night. Then I stumbled upon this site. Thanks for putting together.

Your website keeps getting better and better! If you want some updated information, Mickey did an interview with the London newspaper "The Guardian" which was featured in the July 23, 1999 edition. I you can't locate it let me know and I will send you a copy. It was great! The reporter came to Mickey's home in SC and spend a weekend interviewing and enjoying the HOT and sunny weather. I have copied the comments from your "guests" and will share them with him and his wife. He also appeared on the Cochran show a few months ago, and recently on the county show Crook and Chase which were featuring inductees into the SC Hall of Fame. So if you're wondering if he's still active and full of life, the answer is a big yes! And the sense of humor is still very much in use....on the show he said that his wife is the best cook, she cooks a mean TV dinner! Keep up the GREAT work!!!

Terrific site. Who said up there that Spillane beats the critically overrated Ross McDonald? Well, you got that right. When I think about that sad sack loser Lew Archer, my blood boils! Spillane, not McDonald, belongs as the third man in the Holy Trinity of mystery writers, behind Hammett and Chandler! That's all.

I was looking for more about Mickey Spillane Auhtor and in doing so I found your Url full completely the entire result pages of the altavista search engine. So I went here to see it , and it is really an interesting site. Even if my site is completely about stamp collecting or so , I've a part on it dedicated to books and reading. Thanks ,alessandro

Mickey Spillane is a true master, but don't tell him that. He'd deny it. Thats why he has been popular for decades. He speaks to the regular guy,the hard-working guy(and gal).He writes about primal emotion and raw feelings. His prose explodes like a blast from a .45 automatic. Don't listen to the critics,if they knew anything about real people, they wouldn't be critics-they'd be writers. So heres to Mickey Spillane;who never sacrificed his beliefs and to Mike Hammer;a constant in an ever changing world.

Love this website!! It's nice to see Spillane get some credit! I started buying Spillane paperbacks my freshman year in college ('84)after watching Armand Assante play Mike Hammer in I, the Jury and had to get a taste of the real thing. Recently I've decided to reread them all and have spent many a night up til 2AM.... I love Dick Francis but nobody sparks my imagination like the Mick. Thanks for the site! Anybody here partial to Tiger Mann?!

Nice, comprehensive web site. Like it. I'm researching for a British TV programme in preaparation for an interview with Mickey Spillane, and really found it useful. One question: How many films has Spillane appeared in as Mike Hammer (I've seen 2 and 1 quoted). Thanks for your help. Andrew

Wonderful site! It gives due recognition to a writer of hard-boiled detective fiction whose work I believe outshines over-rated but critically-accepted works by Ross MacDonald and Robert B. Parker.

Terrific website. I'm a novelist who lists his first inspiration as Spillane. Don't forget some of his best works don't feature Mike Hammer. For example, one of my favorite Spillanes is THE LAST COP OUT. --Jim DeFilippi, author of BLOOD SUGAR and DUCK ALLEY

I think your site is great. I had no idea that people are finding it hard to locate the Mickey Spillane books. I started reading Spillane way back when and have never gotten rid of the books. I have a lot of the Stacey Keach Mike Hammer episodes and enjoy them even though they're not "true Spillane." Maybe they'll rerun the series some day and I can get the whole series.

I am reading Me, Hood(with Return of the Hood), a pair of non-Hammer novelettes(1963, 1964). I have read two Hammer novels but will soon read more, having been inspired by Me, Hood and this web site! If you like Spillane, I would also recommend Charles Willeford, Jim Thompson, John D. MacDonald, Ross MacDonald and Elmore Leonard. But Spillane is the most fun!

Great site. I first began reading the Mike Hammer novels in the early 1960's. One of my favorites by Spillane is "The Long Wait", which is not a Mike Hammer novel, but it is great!! Also, "I, The Jury" is my favorite Hammer novel. Keep up the good work Pal!

Thank's for these Great Mickey Spillane pages. Before I found these pages I was really depressed. I should do a biography of his books - which are available in Finnish. And of course, it's always easier to do if I know how many novels He has written altogether. So, thanks again. Yes, I like his novels, even though they are what they are...

-very funny, kitten.

Man, I love this Mike Hammer page! I was looking through your guestbook and I was surprised to see so many derogatory comments regarding Mike Hammer, the Madman of Mayhem! Don't you feel that Stacy Keach is the definitive Mike Hammer? He's my favorite. And boy do I love Kent Williams and Don Stroud in their respective roles in the t.v. series. Great page! Stop into the Pajama Pirate's Pary Pad and look at my new and old movie reviews!
