An award-winning playwright, a while back I posted a link to download my first novel Killing Rain, Killing Fire (dedicated to Mr. Spillane). I had a number of responses and a few kind notes back. The offer still stands -- download it free http://www.answerpub.com/joseph.hullett but I'd sure like to hear comments at hullett@answerpub.com Thanks

It's hard to believe that most of these books were written during the depression. When AMERICA had its high minded morals and beliefs. The character of Mike Hammer cuts through that double-standard like a an sharp axe cutting through hot melted butter.

You've got an ace site here. Real knock-out stuff! I could probably carry on laying down a line of hyperbolic praise; but, let it suffice, for the time being, to just say: Keep up the good work, pally, you've done a bang-up job!

Very nice site. I had an opportunity to meet Mickey Spillane about a year ago. He is very nice man and extremely cordial. I may have surprised him though as I am only 29 and have read every book he has written (except for the children ones). Kiss Me, Deadly was my first book and I never looked back. I was 13 at the time and I am sure a lot of it had as much to do with the sex and violence, as with the tremendous story telling.

I dig your site, man! very informative and entertaining, visually and intellectually...but one thing: you could add the year of publication with your review to give the reader a sense of the time frame in which Spillane was writing. For instance, Hammett wrote many of his greatest stories in the twenties, Chandler in forties and Spillane in the fifties...this gives us and idea of continuity as well how each built upon the legasy of the others. Over all, cool, dude! Keep it up!

Great site about an underappreciated author. Even Hy Gardner himself (and his teevee show) couldn't get the recognition Spillane deserved. I am glad to see he got a Poe just short of fifty years after he should have. You don't think the pukes were jealous of his sales when paperbacks were the price of a pack of Lucky's? Yeah and beer really was a nickle.

Ahhhh, Mickey Spillane. Now there's a great mystery writer for you. No actor has ever done justice to Mr. Spillane's creation. No writer has ever had so much influence on American tv police/detective dramas.Mr. Spillane is a master craftsman; he writes for the reader: YOU. No reader has ever put down a Mike Hammer novel without saying "Boring". If you like mystery/detective fiction, your life is unfulfilled without an introduction to Mr. Spillane and Mr. Chandler.

Wow! First I found Guy Williams, then Gene Colan, and now Mickey Spillane! 3 of my favorites, all on the Internet! And you've created a fabulous website! Thank you! And now... The Perfect Actors to Play Mike Hammer: All time 1. Guy Williams!!! Look at the old paperbacks! Guy Williams is Mike Hammer! And if you don't think Guy was mean enough, see him in "The Anti-Matter Man as the evil John Robinson. ("Who are you?" "Why everybody knows Professor John Robinson!" ) 2. Stacy Keach (And that surprises even me!) I didn't like Stacy Keach at first, but he grew on me. He's a great narrator, and I liked his build and style. I thought he was too small for the role at first, but eventually I was very sorry when he got busted.) Today: 1. And there's only one...Dale Midkiff!!! Ideally, Mike Hammer should be tall and have dark hair, and he's got to be a good actor. Dale looks the part, and he's a great actor! Keep up the good work with the website! "I laughed as the search engine blinked, her random chips cacheing my way, drawing me deep into her sites, her keys stroking my fingertips, my eyeballs riveted on her prompts. There was a twinkle in her eye and a .45 in my gut, and I knew that the sweet black darkness of a crash would be coming for me soon. And it was worth every moment!" (Excerpt from "The URL Hunters by Webby Domain")......Finally! A website on Mickey Spillane! I almost started doing one myself but your site is so beyond anything I could have done that I'd be honored to be allowed to add a link to it from my own little website (www.bookbeetlebugaboo) I made for friends and book lovers to enjoy. I started reading Spillane in High School (and a favorite non-Spillane called "Kiss My Fist" by James Hadley Chase) but started to seriously read his works and collect the original PB's & HB's about 3 years ago, finding many on Ebay at fair prices. That seeded the bulk of my collection until I began to find better bookstores here in Manhattan (NYC), eventually getting doubles and even quadruples of some titles. I never seem to have enough. What saddens me though is that so few of his titles are currently in print. For those who want to read him, it would seem difficult to stroll into their local Bards and Notables and get a copy of "Vengeance Is Mine" - they'd have to go to a specialty shop. And try finding a bookseller on the street who has anything by Mickey Spillane! Impossible! Well, I'll wrap this up by saying "Thank you" for such a fine website and for your "tip of the hat" to a fine, fine author. Now if there were one for Charles Willeford, I'd be in heaven.....

Thought you might find this funny. There's a satirical newspaper in the chicago area called the Onion. A book by the same people ("Our Dumb Century") has ficticious articles from throughout the 1900's. May 7, 1950: "Micky Spillane Treats Wise Guy to a Little Chin Music / Vows to Gut-Shoot the Rat Who Aced His Best Pal / Many Half-Dressed Skirts Expiring in Tough-Guy Author's Arms" This promted me to try to find out what "Chin Music" is. ;-) I still haven't found out, but I like your site.

It was the fall of 1957, in a barricks in Erding Germany, that i first got caught up reading my first Spillane novel... there was no television, but books and a vivid imagination always kept idle time from being wasted... I read all the books, and when the series with Darin McGavin came out years later, i watched with equal enthusiasm... For me Spillane was always the real image of Mike Hammer, with McGavin the next best... The years have overtaken all of us, Mickey is in his 80's and I'm now in my 60's and I've just discovered and started reading "Black Alley"... I think I'll try to grab a short piece of my youth and re-read the Mike Hammer sagas.... again.

In 1960, at the age of 8, I found "I, the Jury" in my uncle's bookcase and shortly after, I said goodbye to the Hardy Boys and others of that type of mysteries, and I stepped into the real world of Mystery novels. Although I got into trouble with my Mom for reading such a "naughty book", I was soon reading more. Mickey, if you read this, thank you so very much for all of the hours of pure pleasure and excitement I have gotten from what you have written. If it wasn't for you, I do not think I would be the reader that I am now...and that is a 3-5 book a week reader. The best thing in my whole life is the fun of reading and I have always said that I owe it all to you, and "I, the Jury"!!!! And Rocco...this is an excellent website!!! You are to be commended for the time you have spent on it, the research you have most obviously done, and for paying an apt tribute to not only a classic character from America's early days in crime fiction, but also a wonderful tribute to an author who is, by any standards, the best in the business!!! Keep up the exemplary work!!! Oh...and Mike....we need another one!!! :) Mike Morris
