Cashew nut (annacardium occidentale) Catalog # 13 - A very easy to grow ornamental from which is harvested the palatable cashew nut. Scoring the seed will produce a seedling in a few weeks that can grow into a fair sized tree depending on potsize. Richly scented flowers give way to the red fruit which contains a cashew nut seed on the bottom. The leaves are long ovate and ribbed turning a reddish hue in the summer sunlight. It can grow to as high as 4 ft (1.2cm) in a year, and thrives in direct or partial sunlight. The soil should be moist but never soggy.
