The Birds of Costa Rica

To many of the people who visit Costa Rica for the wildlife, one of the biggest attractions is the birdlife.

Costa Rica boasts over 800 different species of birds (the Rara Avis reserve alone has hosted 360.)

If you've never birded, but always wanted to, Costa Rica is a particularly good place to enjoy the experience. The country's diverse climate and geographical patterns have created many different habitats, each of which has its own blend of regular and occasionally viewed birds.

The country has many national parks and other protected areas, and often you can hire a trained guide who can introduce you to the birds.
