The Prince: Conall MacArran of Clan Ventrue.
The Seneschal: Meredith James of Clan Toreador.
The Harpy: Alixander Wheelwright-Rook of Clan Toreador.
The Sheriff: Vilos Cohagen of Clan Toreador.
The duties of the Keeper of Elysium were performed by the Coterie Centari Elysai.
This night's gathering was held February 2nd in the year of our Lord 1999, in a large Victorian-era home off the south side of Kingston Road, in the area of Toronto known as the Beaches.
As at the last Elysium, there was a certain amount of uneasiness in the air. Concerns had grown that there were indeed Sabbat present in the city. These concerns were heightened when Vilos Cohagen, the Sheriff, was shot while passing in front of a bay window. Vilos was only wounded, but the assailants quickly drove off, leaving the witnesses with only speculations as to who was behind the attack. But this did not prevent the Sheriff from starting an investigation.
But there were more suprises. During the meeting of the Primogen Council, Prince MacArran announced that he was stepping down as the Prince of Toronto. He told the Primogen that the stability of the domain seemed to warrent this action, and that he also had personal reasons that he did not wish to go into. He stated that Meredith James, who had served him as Seneschal, was now the Prince, and that he would not tolerate dissension on the matter. And whatever their personal opinions, no one seemed willing to argue with MacArran, whether he was Prince or not.
The news was then announced to those in attendence. It was said that Shasta, the Gangrel Elder, was irritated that he was not consulted on this change in praxis. As the oldest Kindred in the city, he felt that it was customary for the Prince to speak with the Elder about these matters, even if the Prince did not act on his advice. As it was, only those Elders on the Primogen Council were made aware of events before the general populous, and even this was not a consultation.
But other than this, the transition went very smoothly. Prince James announced that her Seneschal would be Marcus Fox, the Elder of Clan Brujah, and up until that point the Clan's Primogen. He would be replaced on the Primogen Council by Alister Campbell. Vilos Cohagen would take over from the Coterie Centari Elysai as Keeper of Elysium. However, this left the position of Sheriff open, and the new Prince assigned Tracer of Clan Gangrel to that station. Shasta, the Gangrel Elder, took over the Primogen seat vacated by Tracer, and, MacArran, the former Prince, would now be Primogen for the Ventrue. And finally, Honest of Clan Malkavian would jointly hold his Clan's Primogen seat with Suzy Taylor. This unorthodox arrangement was explained as providing 'balance'.
In addition, Aphroditie, the Nosferatu Primogen, was removed from the Primogen Council, as she had been accused by the Tremere of having killed Mercy Will, a Setite who held Camarilla Status, and who at one point in the distant past had actually been a Seneschal of Toronto. A replacement for Aphrodite was not named.
The new Prince then announced she was tired of disputes between Clans, and that open Clan warfare would not be tolerated. She outlined penalties for anyone who engaged in such behaviour. The first offense would result in the guilty party being stripped of status. The second offense would result in public censure. The Prince would publicly denounce the individual, and it would be the Prince's wish that none treat the offender with any sort of respect until such time as the judgement was reversed. Anyone who failed to follow the Prince's wishes in this matter would be showing public disrespect for the Prince, and this had repercussions of its own. A third infraction would result in final death.
In recognition for his service to the city, MacArran was awarded the status of Loyal. As well, Keith Solaris, the Tremere Primogen, was seen as Valued. The Primogen Council then adjourned to discuss who would be Harpy of the city, and a short time later it was announced that Alixander Wheelwright-Rook would continue to hold the position, backed by the unanimous vote of the Council.
And so the evening ended. It was the final night of a reign that had lasted almost a year, second only to Chelsea, the first Prince of the city. And of course, everyone wondered how long Prince James would last.
