The Primogen Council

Elysium was held November 19th in the year of our Lord 1996, once again at the Savage Garden, a nightclub on Queen Street West.

At the beginning of Elysium, the Prince announced that because Noll, the Tremere Primogen, was unable to sit on the Council, he would be replaced by Father Gabriel, who was held in high regard by virtually every Kindred in Toronto. In addition, the Prince assigned specific duties to individuals on the Primogen Council, based in part on monitoring and enforcing the Traditions. These duties were assigned as follows:

During the course of the Elysium, several of those gathered noticed a newcomer, covered head to with a large blanket, and wearing a gas mask. Everyone assumed the newcomer was a Nosferatu, and he had spent the early part of the evening with that clan. However, midway through Elysium, Doctor Zangel asked those assembled to look to the stage upon which the newcomer stood. And in a sudden blur of motion, the blanket and gas mask were discarded, and there stood Shamus!

The former Prince said that he couldn't bear to be separated from the residents of Toronto for very long, and asked how things were going. Many asked if he had come to reclaim his throne, but Shamus said that he had only come back to have some fun, and proceeded to tell a series of extremely funny jokes. But Prince Isabella could be seen off to the side, looking nervous.

Midway through the evening, Elysium had a visitor that many hope will never return. In a sudden puff of smoke, a ten foot tall creature with the head and skin of an alligator appeared, and demanded Father Gabriel. Gabriel confronted the thing, and told it to return to whence it came, but it refused, saying the only way it was leaving was with the good Father. The demon, who called himself Abraxas, told Gabriel that there was a place in hell prepared for him.

And then a strange thing happened. One by one, the Kindred who witnessed this confrontation broke into the Lord's Prayer, until all of those gathered were reciting something that some of them had not uttered in hundreds of years. And suddenly, in a flash of light, both Abraxas and Gabriel were gone.

It was later revealed that Gabriel had agreed to take the place of a man who had dealt with demons in the past, but now was reluctant to pay the price. And so Gabriel had drunk from a cup intended for another, and in doing so emulated his patron.

However, his Clan Regent, Dieter Halsten, was most upset. While Gabriel's methods were unorthodox, he was a valued member of the clan, and Dieter had apparently frenzied when Gabriel was taken. Later in the evening, a Nosferatu Neonate made the off-hand remark to Dieter that "you don't seem to care very much about your clanmates, do you?" Apparently this Nosferatu mistook Dieter's stoicism for cold-bloodedness. Dieter proved otherwise, however, when he attempted to burn off the Neonate's face. Only the intervention of the Sheriff, Loucan Layfay and Angela Giovanni prevented Dieter from finishing off the "insignificant weed" as Dieter called him.

Vilos Cohagen, a Toreador recently arrived in the city, had a similar encounter with the Regent when he suggested that those Kindred infected with HIV should be destroyed outright. Dieter was aghast at Vilos' lack of humanity, and stated that this was not a viable option. Father Gabriel might have been able to cure these unfortunates, but with his disappearance, Dieter said that there were few choices other than to monitor the carriers. At the mention of Gabriel, Vilos said "pity" in a condescending tone. This pushed Dieter over the edge again, and this time, he succeeded in frying off the Toreador's face. Only the wily social charms of Eric, another Toreador, were able to stop Dieter's righteous bloodlust. After the Regent had calmed down, Damien, the Keeper of Elysium, asked Dieter to respect his property, and warned him that another outburst would not be tolerated. The Regent apologized, and behaved himself for the rest of the evening.
