Once again, as dictated by the Sabbat, Elysium was held at the Savage Garden, a nightclub on Queen Street West, on October 1st, in the Year of Our Lord 1996.

There was much tension in the air this evening, for this was the night of the Wild Hunt, when three Kindred selected at the last Elysium were to be released outside the Box. There the unfortunates (Isabella Munroe, Kiril, and Satin Shade) would be hunted for three nights by packs of Sabbat.

But despite the tension, outwardly everyone was calm, a mood broken only by the arrival of Physch, leader of the Razor Children, smashing through the only remaining stained glass window (the one depicting Moses carrying the Ten Commandments).

Several leaflets were found about Elysium with the following poem:

We come not as single spies, but in battalions, we are sorrow
treading lightly, our faces masked, our intentions clear
Pandora... Pandora we whisper within
Through keyholes we creep, as statues we speak
Pandora... Pandora we call from within
To the chest we retire, our heads are on fire
Pandora... Pandora we cry from within
We carry our cross, your gain is our loss
Pandora... Pandora we scream from within
And there from your silence, shall spring our defiance
Pandora... Pandora our patience is thin.

The Coven

Who wrote the poem? Where did the leaflets come from? No one knew.

The mood of the gathering soon changed. Several people had seen Isabella Munroe speaking with Santino, the head Sabbat warden. The next thing most remember was Santino throwing Isabella across the room. Whether what happened next was planned, or just a spontaneous revolt against tyranny, is unknown, but several Kindred attacked the wardens. A shroud of darkness enveloped the combatants, and when it fell, nothing was left of Santino but ashes.

But Chad, one of the wardens, had escaped. So to avoid retribution, Elysium was moved to a theatre on Yonge Street. It was rumoured that mere moments before the Kindred arrived, fairies had held court there, but this was most likely a fantasy spawned from the stress of battle. At this location, Prince Shamus gave a short speech to those gathered. He said that the Camarilla had abandoned them, and so Toronto would leave the Camarilla itself behind. The old titles would no longer be used, the old names would no longer be used. Shamus declared that he was no longer use the title "Prince", but call himself "Lord" Shamus instead. And he would not rule over "Toronto", but "The Independent Principality of York" (York being the original name of Toronto).

From the Theatre, units of Kindred set out to scour the streets for any Sabbat foolish enough to allow themselves to be found. However, after several hours patrolling the downtown core, no Sabbat had been encountered. Either their numbers had been exaggerated, or they were cowards and in hiding.

Because they had not encountered any opposition, the Kindred were confident enough to try to bring down the Box. Those few who had researched the problem felt that whatever the power source, it must be located at the geographical center of the barrier. An assault was quickly organized, and a building at the corner of University and Dundas Streets owned by the Pentax Corporation was attacked. But they were to late. Whatever it was that generated the Box was gone, possibly removed just a few minutes before the arrival of the Kindred, although the Box itself still stood.
