Elysium was held August 6th in the year of our Lord 1996 at a nightclub called The Savage Garden on Queen Street West.

Some of the Kindred of Toronto protested holding Elysium at this location, because it had recently come to the attention of several investigators that some kind of mystical barrier had begun to flicker in and out of existence around the downtown core. This barrier was impermeable to Kindred vitae, and bounded the area enclosed by the streets of Bloor, Jarvis, Bathurst, and the northern shore of Lake Ontario. The Savage Garden is within these boundaries, and if this "Box" ever became permanent any vampires who happened to be within this area, as well as their ghouls, would be trapped. However, Isabella Munroe, Toronto's Seneschal, insisted on holding Elysium at this location.

At the beginning of the Elysium, Prince Shamus announced a new Primogen Council, stating that the previous one had become stagnant, and that it was time for some new blood.

The New Primogen Council

Unfortunately, when the new council was presented on stage, some of them seemed to be intoxicated, or at the very least acted confused and disoriented. The new Tremere Primogen seemed even more confused when several Malkavians shouted accusations that the Tremere had murdered Rachel, the former Malkavian Primogen.

In addition, with the absence of Spader of clan Nosferatu, the Prince announced that Simon Friedmont of Clan Ventrue was to be the new Keeper of Elysium.

And finally, Prince Shamus confirmed Isabella Munroe as the new Seneschal.

About half an hour after the beginning of Elysium, any Kindred who had blood bonds with someone outside Toronto suddenly felt those bonds snap. Several fell to the floor in agony, and for a few minutes chaos reigned. It was then discovered that all communications to the world outside Toronto had been severed.

And then, vans pulled up in front of the Elysium site, disgorging several Kindred. Prince Shamus met with them in a closed session for quite some time, and it was rumoured that one of the visitors was a Sabbat Archbishop.

This was soon confirmed when Prince Shamus came to the stage to inform those gathered that Toronto had been taken over by the Sabbat! It was revealed that the "Box" had become permanent, and that all kindred within its boundaries were now prisoners of the Sabbat. Toronto would now be governed by several "Wardens" who were Sabbat members. No weapons were allowed, and gatherings of more than three Kindred were prohibited, except for Elysiums, which would continue to be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Those gathered were warned that if these rules were violated, or a member of the Sabbat was harmed, three Kindred of the Camarilla would be killed.

The wardens then thanked Belasco of Clan Toreador, a member of the Camarilla for his assistance in Toronto's capture. And then the Sabbat dragged Angelique Robespirre of Clan Tremere, the former Keeper of Elysium, on stage. Angelique's sire was Sabbat, and her captors told those watching that she was going to be punished for her betrayal to the Camarilla. And with that they killed her.

But apparently this demonstration was not convincing enough. Within half an hour, a Sabbat member was attacked by a Brujah, and after the Brujah was subdued, the Sabbat wardens dragged three kindred in front of Prince Shamus. They were the Seneschal Isabella Munroe, Kate Leclaire the Prince's Consort, and Calair the new Tremere Primogen. The Sabbat then told the Prince to choose one of the three that would not be killed.

While Prince Shamus tried to make this impossible choice, Ashley of Clan Toreador stepped forward and said that he would take Kate Leclaire's place. The wardens were very impressed by his bravery, and declared that they would adopt Ashley into the Sabbat, and free Kate.

This left Shamus to choose between Isabella and Calair. But in the end, it was a simple choice, if not an easy one. Isabella was the Seneschal, and Calair was a Primogen. Shamus made his choice, and a shroud of darkness went up around Calair and a Lasombra. And when it came down, Calair's lifeless corpse was in the Lasombra's arms.

The new situation in Toronto was summed up most eloquently by Prince Shamus: "They suck a shotgun down my pants and said, 'you can do what we say and we might shoot you, you can do what we say and we will shoot you, or you can not do what we say, and we'll get nasty on ya.'"
