The Camarilla

Once, vampires walked openly amongst mortals. They did not flaunt their nature, but they did not hide it either. But then came the Inquisition. For survival, many vampires aligned themselves into a political structure called the Camarilla, that adheres to a set of strict traditions, or laws. Some vampires may see themselves above mere mortals, but those of the Camarilla are forced by the philosophical path they tread to remember and cling to their humanity. The Path of Humanity is the basis of the Camarilla, one of the central points where they differ with the Sabbat.

The Camarilla is NOT a democracy; rather, it runs on vaguely feudal lines. Each city is controlled by a Prince, who is advised (but not always restrained) by the Primogen Council. There may also be a Sheriff, a Keeper of the Elysium, a Harpy, and a Seneschal. For more information on the political structure of the Camarilla, see Stations of the Camarilla.

The following are some of the terms used within the Camarilla:

Status

A vampire's respect amongst the other vampires of the Camarilla, and in the city she resides in, is represented by her status. Those of lower status are expected to follow the orders and directives of those who have higher status without question. However, under certain situations, status may be loaned between vampires to accomplish a particular task, or to speak to certain high-ranking members of the city. Status is hightly valued by members of the Camarilla, and they go to much effort of attain what they can of it.

Coterie

A group of closely allied vampires, not nessesarily of the same Clan, who protect and support each other and have mutual goals.

Conclave

A gathering of vampires of the Camarilla to discuss and resolve political issues and disputes between them. A Conclave may only be called by a Justicar, who acts as judge and mediator. Gatherings of immense intrigue, it is here that the important decisions of the Camarilla are made. For more information, see Conclave Protocols.

The Council of Clan Elect

A group of vampires elected at a Conclave, composed of one representative from each of the seven Camarilla Clans. Usually, each representative is the eldest of their Clan, but this not always the case. Each Clan has a meeting, and votes to decide who their representative on the council will be. For more information, see Rite of Delegation.

Grand Conclave

A Conclave held in the City of Venice once every thirteen years by the Inner Circle of the Camarilla. It is here that the Justicars are chosen. As well, other matters of concern to the Camarilla as a whole are dealt with.
