Japanese fire-fighter's coat, Hikeshi-banten.
Quilted cotton cloth, with layers of several pieces of cotton cloth one over another and stitching them together with cotton thread to give strength to the textile. This technique is called Sashiko stitches and it was very hard to pass a needle through the thick pieces of cloth and this reinforced the cloth absorbed water easily and safe from flames while fighting fires. Dyed with the indigo blue and with freehand paste-resist decoration(Tsutsugaki).
