18 Bellair, Yorkville Snug in Yorkville, decorated in dark black and brown in traditional minimalist Japanese style, there's an outdoor patio and two large separate dining areas as well as a comfortable sushi bar. It's classy, perfect for romantic dates. The sushi rice is soft and zesty, but the sushi selection is unadventurous. Tekka Maki (Tuna roll- $4.95) is more generous than usual, the fish very fresh. Tori (chicken- $14.95) is only lightly dosed with teriyaki, and has a clean flavour with no aftertaste. The ingenious ribeye beef rolls ($21.95) are finely sliced wafer-thin and wrapped around fried garlic buds and onions, grilled right at the table, so tender they almost melt. All are served with sticky rice, crisp vegetables, pickles, salads with sesame oil and sauces. Nabeyaki udon (seafood thick noodles- $8.95) are firm in a non-fishy broth, laden with rare meats. Desserts are standard. |
