20 Cumberland St. It's more like a Yorkville home kitchen than a restaurant. Cozy and comfortable, interesting art for sale adorns the walls. There aren't many tables in this tiny space. The assorted platter ($2.95) comes with papadams, samosas and pakoras, all fresh, crispy on the outside and steaming on the inside. The vegetable paan (bread- 2.50) is right out of the clay oven stuffed with crisp veggies, but is a bit heavy. The chicken nawali ($8.50) has tender, moist chicken graced with a light coating of cumin and hot paprika in a creamy orange yoghurt. The chicken tikka ($8.50) is flakier, and soaked in raw ginger and spices. Side rice ($2.50) is generous, in a fluffy mound. The excellent kulfi (ice cream- $2.95) tastes of almond essence, sweet cream with a hint of salted butter in a rich, sinuous curl. |
