Face to Face with My Lover
on Daito's Anniversary
By Ikkyu Sojun
Ikkyu Sojun lived in Japan from 1394-1481, a scandal-ridden Zen master. He was quite the erotic-minded monk and was highly influential in many spheres of art.
About Ikkyu Sojun
Monks recite the sutras in honor of the Founder,
their many voices cacophonous in my ear.
Afterward, making love, our intimate whispers
mock the empty formal discipline of others.
