My father knew my mother's brothers. They used to spend time together-- causing trouble?-- around the town. They got to know each other while hanging out. After some time, my father was introduced to my mother at a partially arranged meeting. It took place in a bowling alley.

Things went well. On a cold New Year's Eve in 1966, my father and mother were married. It was a happy time, filled with close family and, if not a great amount of wealth, then at least a few opportunties.

When the ceremony was done, they had Chinese food at my grandmother's house (on my mother's side).

In that cold winter, my father's old car gave them problems. It took my father and Dalton (his sister's husband) some time to sort them out. Soon, my parents were ready to take a brief honeymoon.

My mother and father drove to Maxville and spoke to my father's grandmother. Then they zoomed off to the great metropolis of Ottawa, the nation's capital, for a very brief honeymoon. They stayed in Ottawa's Lord Elgin hotel for one night-- Luxurious, indeed! The next night they slept in my aunt Noella's (mother's sister's) apartment.

It would be 4 years before they started their own family.
