Sorry for not updating
the site in a few years, it is a long story but it now appears
I
have access to update
it regularly.
Grégoire's latest
film 'Full Contact' had it's World Premiere screening at the
2015 Toronto International
Film Festival on September 15th. Grégoire
was in
attendance for the
screening, possibly the first time he has been at the Toronto
Film Festival.
Check the photo gallery section for photos of
Gregoire at TIFF.
to go to director David Verbeek's website about the film and here
for
a trailer for the
film.
You can view a trailer for Grégoire's 2013 film "Opium" here.
Grégoire also directed the short film
"Lisiéres" in 2012, click here
and here to watch
some videos of the short film, and here

Grégoire has appeared in the French
mini series 'L'épervier' in France. This six episode
series for channel France 2 started airing
in June. There is a five part series on the 'Making
Of L'épervier' on YouTube, Part 4
has a small interview clip with Grégoire (links below). He
plays a pirate named Cha-Ka in the series.
No news on a North American airing of the series yet.
I've added a couple of photos of
Grégoire from this series and from the
film "Spanien' to the
Photo Gallery section.
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5
Also found a trailer for Grégoire's film 'Nos Resistances' here.

ordered from the usual places like Amazon.com.
I also came across the teaser video on YouTube
for a Japanese short film called 'Reflections'
starring Grégoire and Hidetoshi Nishijima,
watch it here.

Not much news to report, I've just updated
the Filmography section as Grégoire has been
working on a few new films.

Grégoire Colin
had the honour of having his first short film 'La baie du renard' (Fox
Bay)
screened at the Cannes
Film Festival as a closing night special screening. Grégoire
wrote
and directed the
12 minute film about a young teenager that spends time patrolling the creeks
of a small bay
with his underwater spear gun. After a couple puts down anchor in the bay
in a large wooden sailboat,
he watches their lives with a desire that quickly transforms into
an obsession. Click here
for an article titled 'Grégoire Colin, basking in the sun' about
taking
his film to Cannes.
Grégoire has set up his own production
company called Tsilaosa Films to distribute his works
including 'Fox Bay'. Unfortunately the film
will not be screened at the Toronto International
Film Festival this year, if I receive word
of any screenings at other festivals I will update
the website with the information.
Grégoire's film '35 Rhums' directed
by his friend Claire Denis is set for release on DVD
in Canada on October 20th, order here.
Evokative Films in
Montreal released Grégoire's 2007 film 'The Killer' on DVD
on March 10th.
The DVD also includes director Cédric
Anger's first short feature 'Novela' from 2001 that

off
eBay, it has been
been released on DVD in Japan.
June 15, 2008
Sorry for the lack of updates, lots of information to tell you about. Grégoire Colin has completed filming the latest film written and directed by his friend Claire Denis titled '35 rhums'. The film is scheduled for release this year, I wouldn't be surprised if it is screened at the upcoming Toronto International Fim Festival in September. In this family relationship drama Grégoire plays Noé, who inherited his apartment from his parents and lives in the same building as train driver Lionel who lives with his daughter Josephine in a Parisian suburb.
Grégoire has also been working on
the film 'If Only The Whole World Loved Me' (Nanayomachi)
that was written
and directed by Naomi Kawase. In this film a young woman leaves her job
and
lover in Japan
to start a new life in Thailand.

The film 'Inquiétudes'

for Grégoire.
September 22, 2005

I have added a photo
of Grégoire and actor François Cluzet from the film

It also seems that Grégoire's film 'Inquiétudes' was released in France on Region 2 DVD back on October 5th, 2004, and is available for order through sites likes Amazon France.
The film "Vendredi
Soir' directed by Claire Denis is out on Region 2 DVD in the U.K. (Grégoire
has a very small part
in this film).
February 20th, 2005
Grégoire's
film 'Sex Is Comedy" is finally getting a North American release on DVD
this Tuesday February 22nd.
October 12th, 2004

information that Grégoire is involved in two more movies.
One film titled
'De profundis' is
currently filming and is directed by Antoine Santana. The other film titled
'Un livre à
rendre' is directed by Raoul Ruiz and is in post production. Once I get
some more
information on these
films I will post it.

Last night I saw the
new Claire Denis film L'Intrus (The Intruder) at the Toronto International
Film Festival that
stars Grégoire Colin. He plays a son of the main character and does
a great
job as usual, and
the film is visually stunning as most of her films are. I suggested to
Claire
Denis that she should
bring Grégoire with her next time he is in one of her films at the
festival
and she said he was
supposed to come to Toronto for this screening but a sudden commitment
prevented him from
coming.
August 31st, 2004
Grégoire is
in the new Claire Denis film L'Intrus (The Intruder) that will have it's
North
American Premier
at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Below is the
information on screening times and a bit
of information on the film.
SCREENING TIMES:
Tuesday, September 14
09:45 PM ISABEL BADER THEATRE
Thursday, September 16
02:00 PM VARSITY 2
Thursday, September 16
02:00 PM VARSITY 3
Principal Cast: Michel Subor, Grégoire Colin, Katia Golubeva, Bambou, & Florence Loiret
In L'Intrus, conventional narrative storytelling
has been replaced by an attempt to tell a
story in purely visual and aural terms.
The dialogue has been stripped down to bare essentials,
while the image - sumptuous Cinemascope
colour shot with incomparable skill by Agnès Godard -
assumes a privileged position. At a point
in time when dialogue-driven projects and the primacy
of the script reign across the world, it
is most refreshing and encouraging to see that artists
of distinction are still creating films
that make us realize there are other options available.
L'Intrus - literally "the intruder" - is
a film that comes at us in shards, pieces of reality that
Denis challenges us to assemble. We are
taken to the French-Swiss border, where we follow a
number of different people who move like
ghosts through the woods. Faces we have seen in
shadow may reappear, but we are never sure
how or why. Gradually our focus comes to rest
on a white-haired man, Louis (Michel Subor),
who takes money out of a Swiss bank and ends
up somewhere in Asia. Slowly, the fragments
of Denis's deliberately foggy narrative start
to come together as we discover Louis is
trying to reconcile parts of his past with events in
the present.

Grégoire's
film Snowboarder is being released on Region 1 DVD in Canada on April 13th
through
Lion's Gate Films.
They have added 'Born To Ride' under the Snowboarder title on the artwork
for the North American
market. It looks like extra features are the trailer and a bit on the
making of the film.
From what I can tell it looks like instead of English Subtitles you have
the
option of listening
to it in French or in dubbed English.
Feb. 3rd, 2004
Grégoire's latest film Inquiétudes is released in France on Wednesday February 4th, 2004. You can watch the trailer and some extracts from the film by clicking here. I've also added the movie poster from the film to the movie poster section and a series of photos from the film to the Photo Gallery.

I saw Grégoire's
new film "Scènes Intimes" (Sex Is Comedy) this week and as usual
he has
a great performance.
Gregoire also has a one line part in the new Claire Denis film 'Vendredi
Soir" which I just
saw tonight at the Toronto International Film Festival. He is credited
as
'The Young Man in
The Parka', and just has one line as the main female character offers him
a lift in her car
and he says he would rather walk (during a Paris transit strike). I spoke
briefly
to the director after
the film and asked her why Grégoire took such a small part in the
film and
Claire Denis said
'It was an inside joke ... he wanted to be part of the project.' Claire
Denis also
dedicated the screening
of her film to Katrin Cartlidge who died died of septicemia resulting from
pneumonia at the age of 41 in London on Sept. 7th, 2002 in London.
Katrin appeared in Grégoire's
film 'Before The Rain'.

directed by

The film is both a comedy and a subject of reflection, with Parillaud

not unlike Breillat, shooting a movie that contains erotic scenes.

I've finally scanned
some photos from Grégoire's movie "L'Année de l'éveil",
one of his
greatest performances
came in this film in my opinion. They are at the bottom of the Photo
Gallery section of
the website.
September 24th,

isn't
a great picture, but
it is nice to see him get some much deserved publicity..

The film "The Son
of Gascogne" that Grégoire is in has just been released on DVD in
North
America through Vanguard
Cinema. I just bought it and watched it as I had never seen the film and
it
is pretty good! Just
a warning if you decide to buy the DVD that the quality isn't as good as
you may be used to
with more recent films on DVD. It is fine, but not as sharp and crisp as
the
newer films.
November 8th, 2000

I just got back from seeing Grégoire's
new film "Sade" and it was great. Grégoire
plays the character Fournier who is living with the former wife/mistress
of the Marquis De Sade. The director Benoît
Jacquot was at the screening along with the actress Isild Le Besco who
plays a teenager who falls in love with the Marquis. Grégoire's
role was a supporting one but he did a great job as usual. I talked to
the Benoît Jacquot after the screening and I asked him why he picked
Grégoire for the role. He said "He
is very well known French actor, I know him very well."
August 29, 2000
Grégoire's
new movie "Sade" will actually be the first film shown at this year's Toronto
International Film Festival in Toronto. It's first screening is scheduled
for 6pm on Thursday, September 7th, 2000 at the Varsity 8 Cinema. The second
screening will be at the Uptown 1 theatre on Friday September 8th, 2000

newer films is set to show at this year's Toronto International Film Festival.
The film "Sade" by director Benoît Jacquot is due to be part of the
Contemporary World Cinema section of the Festival. The schedule comes out
next week at which time I will post the screening times. It would be nice
if Gregoire came to the Festival but we will have to wait and see.

Nov. 26, 1999
The film "Secret Defense" starring Grégoire Colin has just opened in New York and was reviewed in the Nov. 19th issue of the New York Times. The video for this movie is also for sale from MovieMail in the U.K.. It is in PAL VHS format so it would need to be tranfered to NTSC for people in North America. Click here to get to their web site, the video comes to a total of 18.49 pounds to ship internationally. I have not ordered it yet so I cannot comment on the service provided by this company.
Siren Entertainment in Australia is selling a PAL VHS version of Grégoire's film "Fiesta", which again would need to be transfered to NTSC for North American fans. It comes to a total of $38 Australian to ship to North America, click here to go to Siren Entertainment's web site. I have ordered this video and will comment on the service provided once I receive it.
The video for the film "Nenette And Boni" is also for sale in the U.S., with a high list price of around $89.95, priced high for the video store market. If it ever gets reduce to consumer pricing I will let you know. "The Dreamlife Of Angels" has also been released on DVD and video in the U.S., available from several on-line stores like CDNow and Amazon.
Sept. 20th, 1999
I saw Grégoire's
new film LE BEAU TRAVAIL at the Toronto International Film Festival
on September 16th. The film was visually
stunning, the African landscape was amazing. Grégoire
plays a soldier in the French Foreign Legion
stationed in Africa. Unfortunately neither
Grégoire
or the director Claire Denis were at the screening.
Sept. 4th, 1999
Grégoire
Colin's new film "LE BEAU TRAVAIL" will be screened twice at the 1999 Toronto

Grégoire's recent film "The Dreamlife Of Angels" has been released in the U.S. through Sony Pictures Classics, and in Canada through b'heivje(r). The reviews have been great, and some of the advertising does show Grégoire in it which is nice to see.
Still hoping to get in touch with Grégoire to get the latest developements with his career and life, but no luck as yet.
Mini bio from
"Before The Rain"
GREGOIRE COLIN (Kiril) has
been acting in theatre and film since he was 12 years-old. At eighteen,
he already has ten film credits to his name. He first garnered attention
in Britain with his role in Agnieska Holland's "Olivier, Olivier." Since
then, he has completed "L'Anee De L'Eveil" and, most recently, "Le
Silence D'Ailleurs." Colin enjoys playing jazz music, especially on his
cello, and has also begun writing screenplays. Gregoire was
born on July 25, 1975 in Châtenay-Malabry, Hauts-de-Seine,
France.
GREGOIRE COLIN describing the
character of Kiril from "Before the Rain": "Kiril is enigmatic,
and because of his choice of silence, we can never really discover who
he is. He wants to be a hero. He does not see or feel the political
problems but has a romantic notion about the conflict."
The Director
and Grégoire talk about Grégoire's portrayal of Chriss in
the film "La Vie rêvée des anges."
ERICK ZONCA : As for Chriss,
he is not a sympathetic character. The actor didn't play him to
attract sympathy.
GREGOIRE COLIN: What I realized
after I read the screenplay was that this was not an easy
part. Do I have this side
to me? Can I feel this nervous? The answer is yes, and I did it. At the
same time, I realized other
things to be exploited. He was an unpleasant character one could
meet everyday. He was a horrible
person with power. But it's part of human life. He is a bastard.
But we leave him when he stops
being the torturer.
ERICK ZONCA: He's not an abominable character.
GREGOIRE COLIN: Others consider him that way. I don't despise him.

La Ravisseuse (2005)
(A Song Of Innocence) once titled 'De profundis'
Role - Julien Orcus
Director - Antoine Santana
Mini Description:
A stiff bourgeois husband finds it hard to keep abreast of his young wife's
unsettling wet nurse
in "A Song of Innocence." Proving that good help isn't all that hard to
find but is hard to appreciate,
delectably sinister tale set in 1877 examines the class struggle from a
rarely seen angle: the politics
of nursing one's own infant versus fobbing it off on a lactating servant.
Moody portrait of female
dreams in the midst of cosseted boredom is consistently interesting if
a bit abrupt in its inevitable
denouement. Fests are a given, with select arthouse play a possibility.
Shepherd girl Angele-Marie
(Isild Le Besco) arrives at the chateau of Charlotte (Emilie Dequenne)
and Julien Orcus (Gregoire
Colin) to nurse their newborn daughter, Marceline. Both young women are
18. Julien, an ambitious
and humorless architect, works long hours and despairs of ever sharing
his wife's bed again; she
had a difficult delivery and is in no hurry to make more babies. He would
have preferred a son
and plans to produce one as quickly as possible. Charlotte was educated
in a convent from age 8
to 17 and loved the brief exposure she had to Paris before Julien proposed
and parked her in the
country. Never having wondered how it is that Angele-Marie has breast milk,
Charlotte's shocked
to learn that her nursemaid gave birth mere days before she did and farmed
out her own child to
yet another wet nurse in the countryside in order to earn wages nursing
a rich child. Charlotte
should maintain a strictly master-servant relationship with her daughter's
wet nurse, but the two
teenagers share a girlish complicity of which Julien violently disapproves.
Flashbacks in which
Julien and his doctor friend Rodolphe (Frederic Pierrot) audition Angele-Marie
in a part-harem,
part-brothel setting where poor new mothers bare their swelling breasts
to formally clad upper
class men is hauntingly frank and original. Set on the cusp of the advent
of child-rearing practices
closer to the 21st century model, pic touches on motherly love, the family
unit and how much of a
hand a woman should have in her own child's early upbringing. Study of
what happens when the
strict rules of subservience blur isn't quite as richly explored as it
could be, but the novelty of
the topic, burnished lensing and convincing thesping conspire to create
the impression of something
new.
La Domaine Perdu (once

2006)
Role - ?
Director - Renuad Bertrand
L'Intrus (The Intruder) (2004)
Role - Sidney
Director - Claire Denis
Mini Description: In
L'Intrus, conventional narrative storytelling has been replaced by an attempt
to tell a story
in purely visual and aural terms.
The dialogue has been stripped down to bare essentials, while
the image - sumptuous
Cinemascope colour shot with incomparable skill by Agnès Godard
- assumes
a privileged position. At
a point in time when dialogue-driven projects and the primacy of the script
reign across the world, it is most refreshing
and encouraging to see that artists of distinction are
still creating films that make us realize there are other
options available.
L'Intrus - literally "the intruder" - is a film that comes at us in shards,
pieces of reality that
Denis challenges us to assemble.
We are taken to the French-Swiss border, where we follow
a number of different people who move like
ghosts through the woods. Faces we have seen in
shadow may reappear, but we are never sure how or why. Gradually
our focus comes to rest
on a white-haired man, Louis (Michel Subor), who takes money out of a Swiss
bank and ends
up somewhere in Asia. Slowly, the fragments of Denis's deliberately foggy
narrative start
to come together
as we discover Louis is trying to reconcile parts of his past with events
in
the present.

and the Marquis
de Sade is back behind bars. Decidedly, no matter the government, all deem
him suspicious.
Robespierre’s puritan regime, with its cult of the Supreme Being, cannot
but brand the great
aristocrat-turned-agitator, libertine, atheist and author of the scandalous
Justine “an immoral
enemy, unworthy of the people.” De Sade is 50. After languishing in the
Bastille and Saint-Lazare,
the Picpus hospital – his present lock-up – seems like heaven on earth,
“a select society, peopled
with loveable women.” Picpus is a fake sanitarium where those aristocrats
and businessmen who
can still do so, save their necks by emptying their pockets…

is a woman of about forty, free, modern and a private-eye. Free because
at 22 she
left one world to invent another for hersel. She smokes three packs of
cigarettes a day, sleeps
in her clothes and, for her very private nights, prefers women and young
men. A detective, but
not in the traditional sense, more like a taxi driver, a job with attachments,

a little of others' lives home with her at night. She looks for missing
personns, shadows wayward
spouses and like a good Samaritan, haunts dangerous drug-dealers... Not
believing in God,
Maxime has only principles and a secret, a secret that is so deep in her
that she's almost
forgotten its existence. The whims of her profession put her in contact
with her 18-year-old son,
whom she did little more than bring into the world, and her ex-husband,
whom she'd done little
more with than marry. He is wealthy, and she hates money. Her son is young
; she feels she is
getting old. One of her investigations swerves toward the jackpot, a matter
usually for the
police but which scoops her up and lays her down right in the middle of
all her own contradictions:
principles, ethics, fairness, morality and maybe even, for the first time,
feelings. Life is hard,
Maxime too. They're made for each other.

U.S. Go Home (1994)
Role - Alain
Director - Claire Denis
Mini Description - The film
is set in the suburbs of Paris in 1965, though the City of Light seems
like a far-off dream.
Three teenagers obsessed with losing their virginity - randy Martine; her
friend Marlene; and
Martine's older, restless brother, who serves as their rather reluctant
chaperone - hitch a ride with
an American GI and find their lives radically changed. The title is ironic,
or at least double-edged:
the French teenagers hate American imperialism and the war in Vietnam,
but they are infatuated with
American popular culture.
Roulez Jeunesse (Breaking
Out) (1993)
Role - Julien
Director - Jacques Fansten
Mini Decription: The strange
encounter of two universes that normally remain completely separate - senior
citizens
from a retirement home in southern France confront two ghetto kids from
the same city. One day,
Julien and Manu attempt a vague hold-up. With the police hot on their heels,
they decide it would
be a good idea to hold up in the retirement home, even if it means terrorizing
the occupants.
Needless to say, the police round them up an hour later. In normal circumstances,
everything would
then have returned to normal. But the elderly folks, normally cut off from
the rest of the world,
have suddenly had their interest aroused. And so these people who hardly
ever left the retirement
home now head off into town, in order to find out more about the two kids

Director - Marion Carrance
Oeil ecarlate, L' (The Scarlet
Eye) (1992)
Role -
Director - Dominique Roulet
Mini Description: A
suspicious death... followed by another... and yet another. A heroine whose
story takes
a dramatic twist after each death, and who winds up losing the thread of
the story herself.
A story full of strange seductive relationships that just may be the cause
of it all...
Année de l'éveil, L'
(The Year Of Awakening) (1991)
Role - François
Director - Gerard Corbiau
Mini Description:
In this coming-of-age drama, based on a novel by Charles Juliet, François
is a sensitive and
thoughtful student at a military boarding school in 1948. He is fourteen
and an orphan, and
the French are still fighting in Indochina, as they will continue to do
for many years. He
believes he will be sent to fight there when he graduates, and he is sure
he will die in that
far-away place. While he sees himself as stubbornly principled, others,
including the school's
bullies, simply see him as stubborn and a nuisance besides. In fact, his
humiliation by the
school's bullies is so constant that one of his persistent fantasies is
to become a skilled boxer
and trounce them all. That is one reason why he has become fixated on one
of the school's
military instructors, a handsome sergeant who was a championship boxer.
While there may be
an unformed erotic component to his fixation, it does not manifest overtly
but adds fuel to
his sexual initiation with the sergeant's wife.
Olivier, Olivier (1991) (110 minutes)
Role - Olivier (as a teenager)
Director - Agnieszka Holland
Mini Description:
Olivier, the nine-year-old son of a country veterinarian, vanishes one
afternoon on the way to
his grandmother's house. The emotional aftermath of his disappearance sends
his father packing
from France to Africa and nearly destroys his mother, who clings to her
remaining child, Nadine,
and her devoted neighbor, Marcel. Several years later, having relocated
to the city, the police
investigator who handled the case meets a Paris rent boy whom he believes
to be the missing Olivier.
Once he returns to his rural home, the teenaged Olivier tries to assuage
his mother's now-entrenched
grief and heal the rift between his reunited parents. Meanwhile, he must
overcome his brooding,
adolescent sister's jealousy and doubts about his identity and reconcile
his sleazy street life with
his picturesque new surroundings. Questions about the tight-lipped Olivier's
true motivations continue
to crop up, however, threatening to send his mother over the edge for good'
Le Silence D'Ailleurs (1989)
Role - Christophe
Director - Guy Mouyal
Mini Description: Most
of the characters in this romantic drama are waiting for something. Jeanne
(Clementine
Celarie) is waiting for her husband Francois (Daniel Olbrychski) to return;
he abandoned her
and their son Christophe (Gregoire Colin) a couple of years ago. The boy
is waiting for his
father, too. Meanwhile, Jeanne's current lover Marcel (Jean-Paul Lillienfeld)
is waiting for
her to come to her senses about the cad who went a way, and recognize the
worthiness of his
love for her. Finally, the absent husband is also waiting for the right
time to make his belated
reappearance. All this takes place near the gas station Jeanne runs in
a dessicated and remote
region
in southern France.
