1. Where can I get the episodes of the The Rose of Versailles Anime?
Most episodes of the anime, along with Rose of Versailles music videos, and clips of Masquerade presentations of RoV characters are now available on YouTube. Just type "Rose of Versailles" into the search box.
The first 20 episodes of the series are now available on DVD in Canada, but only in French, and Japanese with French subtitles. A beautiful image of the boxset is available at Imavision. The boxset is also available on Amazon.ca. Just type "Lady Oscar" into the search box. Thanks to Adria Glenn for informing me about this
French translations of the series are also available from Dynamic Visions.
English fansubs of "The Rose of Versailles" are available from The TechnoGirls, a fan subtitle site specialized in shoujo anime. Go to their DVD request site for details on requesting DVDs.
Japanese VHS and DVDs of the series are available from CD Japan. Unfortunately, these are only in Japanese; no foreign language subtitling is yet available.
An Italian source of the DVDs is at www.muscara.com. They have the complete series on DVD, in Japanese and Italian, and with Italian Subtitles, as well as the Live-Action movie. However, the DVDs are only available for Region 2 (Europe) and not for North America. According to the Rose of Versailles fan, Anneke, who told me about the site, the people she contacted knew English well, and were easy to deal with. And the DVDs look great.
2. Where can I get a copy of the The Rose of Versailles Manga?
Various editions of the manga are offered for sale at Manga Search.
Also, the manga is now available in French, both in France and in Canada. It's published by Kana under the name La Rose de Versailles in a two volume edition (over 900 pages each) for about 27$CAN each. The volumes are in black and white paperback with a few glossed pages in color (four in the first volume, 2 in the second) with artworks. It's available for order at archambault.ca and renaud-bray.com. These website are available in English. It's also possible to find other selling points by going to Kana's website by doing a search in the Oł acheter? section.
3. Where can I get a copy of the The Rose of Versailles Film?
The film is now available on DVD from The TechnoGirls DVD request site.
It is also now available on YouTube as a number of separate files. Just type "Rose of Versailles movie" into the search box.
I was sent a copy of the film by a fan in France several years ago, and can make VHS copies for anyone who wants one. Unfortunately, the copies are in black and white and are relatively low quality, so I would recommend the DVD that is now available above. However, the tapes are still watchable. The movie is in English with French subtitles. To order one, send an address label with your address and a money order (to offset tape and mailing costs) for:
$12.00 Canadian (Canadian orders)
$16.00 Canadian (US orders)
to the following address:
David Simmons
791 Shaw St.
Toronto, ON
Canada
M6G 3L9
and I will mail you a copy. For orders outside Canada, please be sure to use an International Money Order.
4. Where can I get a copy of the The Rose of Versailles Takarazuka?
The TechnoGirls DVD request site has a DVD of the Takarazuka Cosmos Troupe 2001 stage production of Takarazuka's Berusaiyu no Bara, "Fersen and Marie Antoinette". It is only available in Japanese.
5. What other The Rose of Versailles merchandise is available?
Several other items of The Rose of Versailles merchandise are available on the Web. I would like to thank Renee Ferguson for her contributions here.
CDs are also available at Anime Castle.
Rose of Versailles production cels may be available at the following places:
Since the series is not very recent, it is hard to find cels, and they can be pricey.
There is a Japanese site that has a great deal of merchandise (figures, teacups, wine??).
And don't forget eBay! At any given time, there are The Rose of Versailles items for sale, sometimes including DVDs. When you search, be sure to use both The Rose of Versailles and Lady Oscar as search terms.
