Z'ev is American drummer Stefan Weisser, who has worked with Glen Branca, Psychic TV and the Hafler Trio, amongst many others. He's also an author, poet and experimental music maker featured in Re/Search's Industrial Culture Handbook. His found percussion instruments included metal and plastic, which he hurled around the stage with a great degree of physicality (he protected himself with gloves, knee and elbow pads). The final performance of this wild style can be heard on a new Soleilmoon CD Ghost Stories.

Like many of the British groups from the industrial era, Z'ev is interested in the occult properties of sound and considered his performances, live and in the studio, as magical renderings. Opus 3.1 is a remastered version of a live recording done in a church in Amsterdam, originally released by Staalplaat in 1990. On a series of instruments, including Tibetan cymbals, Ghanaian lion skin drums and sets of titanium tubes, Z'ev works up tonal environments of rhythm with fascinating intentions discussed in the new liner notes.
