Legion Of Green Men collaborator Jason Irwin's second EP features four tracks of great dub-hop grooves that venture into Orb-style territory with impressive skill. The title track, which places a cute melody over deep bass sounds, comes in two mixes, the NASA-sampling "Hubble Dub" and thicker, trippier "Information Shot." On the flip Irwin displays his digi-dub flex, spicing up reggae influences with junglist rhythms over a bouncy bass synth line. With active electronic sounds and effects, and an instinct to return to the bass hook before things get too fucked up, Watershell may have a hit here. The fourth track, "Boneyard Ballistic," is not too shabby either, playing with voice samples, including a speech by Winston Churchill, over well funky snares and another phat bass synth line. All together the Deep Field View EP will easily be one of the best Canadian releases of the year.
