The second Red Snapper album sees the British group move into some vocal territories but not without once again delivering the great bass-heavy instrumentals. Their brand of boiling jazz-funk centres on the fat double bass work of Ali Friend and the funky drumming of Richard Thair (formerly in Sabres Of Paradise and the Aloof). The first single, "Bogeyman," swings the rhythms around Byron Wallen's bawdy trumpet and David Ayer's squawking guitar mimicry. The guest trumpeter also provides melodic riffs to the psychedelic track "The Tunnel," which pushes Thair's funky snares into new junglish territory. Red Snapper Interview |
