Members of the City Of Tribes label group Stellamara have become Lumin while they explore contemporary beat programming. Their breakbeats are pretty weak but the synth textures they wrap them in are evocative and luminous (to extend their name). On the trip-hop side, they also succeed in chilling like Mixmaster Morris on "Allium," and creating slow-warp sci-fi vibes around their muted jazzy hip-hop beats (sampled from DJ Food's "Sexy Bits") in the otherworldly title track. Another interesting element in their repertoire is their continued use of world percussion, like the Gamelan sounds in the opening "Ixia." And Stellamara's vocalist, Sonja Drakulich, also returns with her Dead Can Dance-style vocal lamentations, on two tracks, "Wild Orchid" (featuring hammered dulcimer) and the tabla-filled "Syrian Rue."
