DJ Wally's second disc for Liquid Sky continues his entertaining marriage of blunted hip-hop beats and humorous samples. "Outa My Head" borrows the melody from the ancient pop hit of the same name, while a cheesy Spanish horn plays another chart-topping tune. "So Soo Sad" also parodies easy listening, mixing heavy breathing and sobbing over maudlin vocalise. And you know the New York producer has a young kid (the cover star actually) when Sesame Street's Grover supplies the title sample. A children's record also donates the strange song about "Noizes" that urges you to "listen to the noises, listen to them all." On a more serious note are the prime head-nodding grooves of "Mr Beaver Smokes A Tree" and the Xmas carol-sampling "A Postcard From Crater Lake." Still the silly fun runs through all the tracks, with the topic of space being a particular favourite, including the Darth Vader-sampling tech-step number "Join Us Or Die." Riding with the stoned ranger are collaborators Swingsett, Frank Heiss (aka Tube) and Crystal Method vocalist Trixi Reese.
