Yes indeed, tinnitus will begin right off the bat with the high-pitched oscillations of the first track "Open Up" on Ivan Pavlov's CD for Germany's Rastermusic's new Static series. The Swedish acoustic engineer explores apparently static events like the hidden sounds of cellular motion and magnetic disturbances on this CD protected by a space-age electro-static shield with silk-screened type. This subtle electronic music has similarities to the rhythms of the post-Panasonic minimalism of Ryoji Ikeda, Goem and others. The clean and clinical sounds may take you back to the computer elements of Kraftwerk or Clock DVA, stripped of any dance beats. This isn't DJ music but rather that of the scientist interested in tonal variations and granular details. COH uses a vocabulary of oscillations, clinks, and static crunches ("Space Odyssey Revisited") with some evidence of Oval's warped tones and glitches ("Speaking Tones"). He also samples his newborn in the robotic nursery music piece "The Fourteenth Thing She Did Today (to a.b.)." Pavlov will also be part of Noton/Rastermusic's 20 to 2000 series of monthly releases throughout this year.
