Excellent deep and dark ambience by an English industrial super group featuring Nocturnal Emission's Nigel Ayers, Lull's Mick Harris and Tactile's John Everall. The trio collaborated mail-art fashion, with Everall/Harris constructing parts 1 & 7 from tapes sent by Ayers, who made parts 2 to 6 from material sent by Everall/Harris (who had previously worked together as Trace Decay). During the 18 minute "Part 1" Everall/Harris create a Lustmord-style subterranean atmosphere from moaning drones, while taking us back to the sound of early Current 93 with treated voices.

For his part Ayers' creations are more ghostly and less threatening ("Part 2" & "6"), but still retaining that low Lustmord rumble. "Part 2" is an effective 12 minute piece that introduces a melodic sequence to the otherwise droning disc. After a brief burst of raw noise in the twenty second "Part 3" Ayers breaks up this droning ambience with typewriter-ish snares in the Basic Channel-ish "Part 4" & "5."
Then Everall & Harris return for a second deep dive into walls of electronix and waves of bowed gong-type atmospheres in "Part 7." Mesmeric Enabling Device is a definite must-have for any fan of dark ambience, and another recent Soleilmoon title to hit my year's best list.
