The Tsuruoka Karate Federation was founded in 1995. Our goal is to improve communication between well established provincial Tsuruoka organizations across Canada, while at the same time offering a sense of unification for all karate-ka (students). "Learning budo or bushido through camaraderie" is the underlying goal that all members try to achieve. Sport karate also plays a part of our development, but is meant as a recreational break from the everyday rigours of hard training.

We are a very proud and unique organization by the fact that our roots trace directly to the founders of traditional karate-do in Japan and Okinawa. Karate was founded in Canada by O-Sensei Masami Tsuruoka in 1957 and he is recognized by our government and encyclopedias as the "father of Canadian karate."

He is also the founder of the National Karate Association. The NKA is the only government recognized and funded organization in Canada whose purpose is to generate interaction between the traditional styles of karate-do established in this country.

Tsuruoka O-Sensei is teaching at the Tsuruoka Canadian Budokai dojo in Toronto, Ontario, the headquarters for Tsuruoka Karate in Canada.
