Terry Fox Walk 99 | |
By Randy Spiegel, 27-Sep-1999 |
TELLS STUDENTS, "YOU ARE THE LEGACY AND THE FUTURE"
Associated Hebrew Schools launches its eighth consecutive "Terry Fox Walk" on September 30th. Two-hundred and fifty six graders from the school's three branches participated in the fundraiser. To date, Associated has raised over $76,000 for cancer research --- more than any other school in Ontario. In fact, Darryl Fox, the brother of Terry Fox told students at Associated's Kamin campus Friday that the school would likely rank an impressive second place in B.C., the Fox's home province. Fox visited with students last week in an effort to convey his appreciation to the school for its continued support of the campaign. Noticeably emotional, he urged students to carry the torch into the next millennium. He outlined his involvement with the Terry Fox organization and said that he wants his own children "to grow up with a life without cancer". Fox implied that strides taken in cancer research over the past two decades may be attributed at least in part, to the funds raised through the annual run. In thanking the students for their enthusiastic embrace of the cause, he emphasized that, "not only people in B.C. get cancer". Kamin General Studies Principal Samuel Rabinowitz, speaking after Darryl Fox, reminded students that cancer does not discriminate. He praised Terry's selfless heroism, and reflecting on the annual walk said, "It's a matter of our lives and how we treat people." |
