ASSOCIATED STUDENTS LAUNCH WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE

"OPERATION WARMTH" TO CLOTHE SCORES OF HOMELESS IN T.O.

Thursday, December 02, 1999

Associated Hebrew School has launched a campaign to provide warm clothing for the city's homeless.

"Operation Warmth" is the brainchild of Associated's Danilack campus grade 8 student Tamar Benoliel. She initiated the idea last year, and presented a formal proposal to the School's Principals and Supervisors this term. Students and staff alike are encouraged to gather used-clothing from home and donate it to the cause. Large wooden collection crates have been placed outside the School's main offices and have been impressively filling up.

"Operation Warmth" is one of numerous community-service and charity projects adopted by the School's Student Council over the course of the academic year. The clothing generated from the campaign will be delivered to the Metropolitan Toronto Police Department, for distribution among the city's homeless. Raffle tickets are also being sold, with the proceeds used to purchase merchandise such as mitts, hats, sleeping bags, coats, etc for the homeless.
