ALISON
SMITH Alison Smith is a Washington correspondent
for CBC Television News. |
Alison
Smith is one of the CBC’s best known and respected journalists
and has played an important role as an anchor and reporter in the network’s
coverage of major news events at home and abroad.

Her
interviews have been wide-ranging – including
conversations with then Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu,
Senator Hillary Clinton, Prime Minister Paul Martin, Jane Fonda, the
former President of South Africa, F.W. deKlerk, Archbishop Desmond Tutu,
and Prince Philip. She has reported from every province and territory in Canada and has covered federal and provincial politics for more than 25 years. Smith’s television news career began in 1977. She worked as a reporter in the CBC Toronto newsroom, moving to the National in 1982 where she worked as a national reporter and assignment editor. She was on the air the CBC Newsworld launched in 1989, and went on to host CBC Newsmagazine, The Lead, Newsworld Reports, and CBC News Morning. Smith was born and raised in Osoyoos, British Columbia and was educated at the University of British Columbia and Ryerson Polytechnic University. She is also the recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Okanagan University College. |
