Rhapsody to Krete by Marshall Hryciuk

is a long poem in five movements
that refreshens our understanding and admiration for the Minoan Culture of Crete and its genuinely "old time time Religion". After a few decades of study and two visits to the island the poet has here gathered a sho shout of celebration to the Pleïades in the belief that all life is holy and power is not.

Where Sky Meets Sky (reprint)

by L LeRoy Gorman, editor of the new Haiku Canada Review here engages us in 'language-centred' writing, sp specifically haiku at the lettriste plane. It's challenging even to find the syllables let alone count them. Wh What we can count on is that though the diction may be refrerred to as 'minimalist', Gorman always, and especially here, creates a verbal space of maximum imagination.

FROM THE FIRST 950

Since1992, Marshall Hryciuk has won first prize in four international non-Japanese or English language Haiku Contests and a Special Selection Certificate from the Iga-Ueno Basho Festival in 2004 for:

weeping willow / an egret on driftwood / hunches at the river

This is a handwritten-on-demand project taking his complete haiku out of his first 950 attempts, renku links and variations from the year of his first writing in 1968 'nature poems one metaphor long' -how he defined haiku for his daily haiku solection at the Cornell University Library website in 2005- before he knew they might be called haiku- until 2002, the palindrome year when he thought his attempts might reach 1000.

Now that the National Library of Canada and his Alma Mater Library, The Thomas Fisher Rare Books at the University of Toronto and the three major world haiku archives all have one, he'd like to offer to write for you in small, hand crafted books -usually four, sometimes five - the 720 or so first collection of his haiku. Their ISBN is 0920489206 and for $300. Canadian i will write them out and ship them to you postage paid.

Charge of the Leit Motif
Marshall Hryciuk
This is the third volume in the No Holds Bard series.
Just as the first volley featured translations of Archilochus and Charles Baudelaire, as progenitors of the European and modernist traditions respectively, Charge of the Leit Motif showcases the poetry of Sophokles and Mallarmé in matched metrical or rhymed translations recognizing them as the apex of these two traditions. Two choruses from the Antigone, 25 sonnets and A Faun's Afternoon from Mallarmé. The gathered galloping Syntaxi Strands 1 - 60, NHB, vol.2 had the first 60 divertissements. Three more are included here as well as new translations of Friedrich Hölderlin, Baudelaire and Eugenio Montale among others and his own notable longer poems, thousand island dressing, alma mater and Mes Musiciennes.

Coyote City and City of Shadows : Necropolitei
Daniel David Moses
Two plays characterizing the Native experience of the urban environment. Dense with the
aftershocks of dreams erupting in the face of a brutish reality, yet dreams that lead Moses’ characters towards a self-defined reality. These are the first and concluding  plays in a newly completed urban tetrology. The first, Coyote City  was nominated for the Governor General’s award for drama in Canada in 1990. Shadow City  has been workshopped at the University of Windsor.

Poems from Earth

Ken Lewis

Drawn from his over 30 years of writing lyric and concrete poetry in Toronto, Lewis provides here a wide-angle receptor on both our local and continental marketeering, language-blare culture. He relaxes its hold on us, letting its ironies, ecstasies and absurdities emerge. One further step back and we can hear the forces of nature still singing, beyond and below the hypnotic static. A third element then insists itself upon us; the poet's profound desire to pass on and communicate this empathetic humanity. Ultimately we are given Lewis' tenderness, a literate and graphically playful one, but a tenderness nonetheless.
