Buckethead fans will be surprised when his latest disc proceeds more like a Durutti Column album than the metallic flash he is known for. Colma features a kinder, gentler side of the hockey-masked American with the fried chicken bucket on his head, in fact there is no electric guitar until the sixth track, "Machete" (which guests Bill Laswell). And not much afterward either, except for the "Maggot Brain"-like hip hop track, "Sanctum". The album was inspired by the tranquil city of Colma, California, which is apparently known for it's cemeteries. The closing track is the ghostly one, featuring atmospheric acoustic guitar and electronic flashes, an effective combination that rivals Jim O'Rourke's production of John Fahey on how to teach an old axe a new trick.

The 2nd track is a harsh, minimalist violin drone "Moon: Page 209, Twenty Two Eighteen Now". .

Out Of Worship is the latest album from American drummer/multi-instrumentalist Doug Scharin, who has done ethno-dub as Him on the Southern and WordSound labels, and is also a collaborator in Bundy K Brown's Directions band. Now with guitarist Joe Goldring, Scharin produces a project not so fusion oriented, although the sounds of tabla and violin give tracks like "Ask Death" and "Moment Must Of Said" an Arabic feel. But when Golding plays slide guitar on the title track, or rocks out on the 18 minute "Meta Stigmata" the mood is definitely more mid-West than Middle East.
