Starfish Pool's minimal techno releases over the last few years have inspired this collection of great remixes by a group of the top producers in the international electronic underground.
PWOG mixer/engineer Tim Freeman and his Dogon Soundsystem partner Peter Koedoodt follow up their brilliant remixes of the Starfish Pool hit Offday, with a new hard space-y dance floor mix Another Day.
Holland's Unit Moebius adds avant jazz-house rhythms to the minimal beats of their first mix of Dante's Carnival CD's Evil Star, while getting into a Plastikman-style snappy snare sound on a second Extended Remix. The same track gets redone by England's Mark Broom & his Pure Plastic partner Dave Hill, for the pumping Evil Star (rue east mix).
The underground of Osaka, Japan makes three appearances on Remixed as Riou Tomita, Akio Nagase and Riou's new breaks-oriented alter ego, Holon, deliver their distinctive techno flavours to this excellent release.
And newcomers, the Steve McQueen Trio, the latest signing to Silver recordings, bite the bullet to give their inspired, interpretation of Vegetable Pie.

Review: "An opening loop of "I can feel...and I don't want to get shot tonight," terminated savagely with a gunshot, sets the tone of intensity pursued throughout Remixed. Koen Lybaert's peers are generally up to the task, though Riou expurgates too much of Starfish Pool's marrow, rearranging the lean funk of "Dante's Carnival: Act 2" into disconnected dial-tones which float through hollow space. Two excellent Unit Moebius remixes of "Evil Star" streamline and intensify Lybaert's original with rhythmic reinforcements and a rocket-fueled propulsive thrust. The Steve McQueen Trio's gradual reduction of "Vegetable Pie" into pure trance wave forms is also brilliant. Mark Broom and Dave Hill inflate "Evil Star"'s innate industro-funk by compression and simplification. Their "Rue East Mix" is a bolt of driving energy without a trace of fat. Akio Nagase achieves a similar effect by diluting the techno tendencies of "Clean" and introducing a dubby spring into Lybaert's step. "Swing Little Move", vibrant and primal in its prior incarnation, is somewhat confused by Holon's cluttered mix. Too much happens too quickly, without the wider berth given by Lybaert's more patient approach. Dogon Soundsystem's overhaul of "Another Day" is wonderful, displaying a real feel for Starfish Pool's unique balance of house vivacity and aggro-techno rhythmic whiplash." - i/e March '98

Like Starfish Pool's Koen Lybaert's collaboration through the mail with Mark Broom for the Lowground release, Minion is his shared vision of minimalist techno and techno-house with Holland's Unit Moebius's Jan Duivenvoorden. Together they use dub techniques on tracks like "Crash two-five-four" to phase the pulsing beats & breaks in the style of Bandulu and the Basic Channel groups. In addition to the eleven jointly-written tracks Unit Moebius and Starfish Pool each did a solo remix. The Crash Session is the first of five such collaborations, which are now in progress and all to be released on Lybaert's Silver recordings label.
Both Starfish Pool and Unit Moebius have had previous releases from Belgium's KK/Nova Zembla Records.

The exciting, first compilation from Koen Lybaert's Silver recordings. Holland's Rude 66 is a very established act in the European electronic underground dance scene. Since 1992 his work has been released on several labels including Crammed Discs, Instinct Records, Djax-Up-Beats and Bunker/Acid Planet. The Devil's Highway is the first full length release from Rude 66 on Silver recordings and expresses the Silver philosophy, by emphasizing originality in sound and structure, rather than accessibility. Using an eclectic interpretation of dance music Rude 66's raw techno mixes acid, hip hop, analogue noises and spoken word bytes. Best tracks are the acid & funky drumming track "Time Warp", the Meat Beat-styled "Terrifying" and the well-tweaked "Homies" which features additional production from Starfish Pool.

Lowground is a collaboration between Starfish Pool's Koen Lybaert and England's Mark Broom (who runs the Pure Plastic label and has remixed PWOG for KK). Early in 1995 Mark Broom was the headlining DJ at a small techno event which also featured PWOG, Damon Wild and Starfish Pool. At this first meeting a serious interest began to develop between Mark Broom and Koen Lybaert about their individual music. This interest became the breeding ground for this collaboration.
Lowground shows their love of the most refined minimal techno as Lybaert's rhythm layers meet Broom's seasoned use of electro-funk influences. The tracks were recorded over a six month period at each of their studios. To complete this collaboration they each did a remix on their own. The final result of these sessions is a serious statement against the commercial approach to techno music as the genre enters the mainstream market. Both Mark and Koen appreciate the underground status of this recording.

RA-X (ie Radio-Active Xtra-terrestrial) stands for high peaked and hard edged noise techno. RA-X's creator Vincent Koreman is inspired by Aphex Twin, as well as Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane and The Jesus and Marychain. He has been releasing vinyl-only albums through Bunker/Acid Planet and on his own label Asbest Records.
Muk can be seen as the next episode in Ra-X's over-the-top freak show! This full length album recalls old industrial elements that are assembled in a most unusual way, creating this feedback driven techno! With a huge wall-of-sound and an uninterrupted drive Muk is true shellshock.

An absolutely brilliant live release from Holland's Unit Moebius! These two guys from The Hague have built up a very strong reputation due to their appearances in their home-based squatters scene and with their do-it-yourself releases on obscure labels like Acid Planet, Referenc and their own label Bunker. They have also released successful albums on Germany's Disko B and Kk Records.
This, the first Silver recordings release creates an image of what a Unit Moebius gig is like: non stop up-tempo grooves with constantly changing moods - from good ole' acid style to real experimental, minimal stuff. Includes two refreshing remixes by Starfish Pool.
